Glory!  Richmond and Petersburg Ours!!, April 3, 1865
    On April 3, 1865, after a nine-month siege, Union forces under the command of General Ulysses S. Grant forced the Confederates to surrender Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. Within a week, the Civil War would be over.
