Chartered
by an act of Congress in 1867, Howard University offered black students
preparatory and collegiate programs, including course work in law, medicine,
education, and pharmacy.
The university was named for Gen. Oliver O. Howard, head of the Freedman's
Bureau, who later served as the University's president. |
