On
April 15, 1861, President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to
suppress the Southern rebellion. Tens of thousands of men enlisted
in the Union forces for periods ranging from three months to three
years. These broadsides convey the exuberance many Northerners felt
at the beginning of the war. |
