    On April 15, 1861, President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to suppress the Southern rebellion. Tens of thousands of men enlisted in the Union forces for periods ranging from three months to three years. These broadsides convey the exuberance many Northerners felt at the beginning of the war.
