Outline map of indian localities in 1833.
As settlers moved westward, the United States government displaced Native Americans from their homelands through warfare and land cession treaties. This map notes the 1833 location of several tribes who lost their land. The Sauk (Sacs) and Fox people lived along the Rock River in Illinois and the Wisconsin River, but they were permanently removed to lands west of the Mississippi River after their defeat in the Black Hawk War of 1832.
