The
Civil War began at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.
On April 12-13, 1861 Confederate troops under General Pierre G. T.
Beauregard bombarded the fort commanded by Major Robert Anderson,
forcing the Union held enclave to surrender. |
