Programme of Arrangements and Order of Exercises for the Inauguration of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, on the 19th November, 1863
On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered his most famous speech in Gettysburg at the dedication of the National Cemetery. Lincoln spoke only for about three minutes, but his brief words conveyed the war's larger meaning by declaring that the nation "shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from this earth."
