Annotation: In support of World War I efforts, the U.S. government published more than 20 million posters. At the turn of the century, the poster served as the most efficient means of mass communication. This particular poster encourages Americans to conserve food. The wartime United States Food Administration (USFA), headed by Herbert Hoover, promoted conserving food and planting “Victory Gardens” to help feed the soldiers and to ensure that food shipments were available to send overseas to war-torn Europe.
