Annotation: Although this WWI poster shows a woman dressed in a Navy uniform, it was designed by Howard Chandler Christy to recruit men, not women. With the exception of nurses, there was not much emphasis on enlisting women to support the war effort. Yet, it is worthy to note that some fifty thousand women did serve (either in military or civilian support positions) during the war.
