Museum Number: LC-USZ62-119349 Annotation: Zitkala Sa was born on the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota where she was raised in the tradtional Sioux manner. In 1921 she founded the National Council of American Indians, her own political organization. Zitkala-Sa was writer who wrote about conflicts between tradition and assimilation, literature and politics, Native American religion and Christianity.
