Lesson Plan Guidelines

  • All entries with an asterisk (*) must be completed before the form can be submitted.
  • The lesson plan should be based on the National Standards for History, U. S. History Units, or World History Units.
    More information about the standards can be found by clicking on the above links.
  • The lesson plan should be useful and clear.
  • The lesson plan should be easily understandable by anyone who reads it and include step-by-step instructions.
  • The lesson plan should include descriptions of any special materials required.
  • Whenever possible, the original source should be credited in the appropriate space of the submit form.

Introduction/Overview: Please give a description or overview of the activities for your lesson plan. What will the student accomplish by completing this lesson? Will this lesson support cognitive and affective skills?

Learning Objectives: Please state the primary goals or objectives for your lesson. When defining the goals, consider the reading and writing skills of the students, along with their visual and cultural literacy. The objectives should be measurable by the students' activities.

Additional Resources/References: Please include all specific materials and resources students will need for your lesson, such as web sites, books, software, hardware, author sites, construction paper, finger paint, vocabulary, library reference materials, etc.

Suggested Activities/Procedures: Please provide detailed step-by-step instructions of how the lesson will be conducted. Include thought questions and share any enlightment based on your personal experiences with this lesson. Consider the focus of the lesson.

Extending the Lesson: Please include activities that can extend your lesson, such as enrichment and remediation exercises or electronic discussion groups. You may also include a lesson that may follow-up on this lesson plan.

Time Required: Please indicate the approximate number of instructional hours required to complete your lesson.

Preparation: Please include any background reading or other preparation suggested for the teacher prior to delivery of your lesson.

Standards Alignment: Please indicate how your lesson plan is aligned to national, state, and technological standards.
