Vicksburg Evening Post (4th May, 1919)
All
social classes, women and children, were present at the scene.
Many ladies of high society followed the crowd from outside the
prison, others joined in from neighbouring terraces. When the
Negro's corpse fell, the pieces of rope were hotly contended for.
