    After graduating from Harvard University in 1864, Robert Todd Lincoln (1843-1926) entered the army and became a member of General Grant's staff.

After the war, he studied law in Chicago and became a highly successful corporate lawyer. He was president of the Pullman Company from 1897-1911, served as secretary of war under presidents Garfield and Arthur, and as Minister to Great Britain under Harrison.
