Credit: Library of Congress
Media type: poster
Museum Number: POS 6 - U.S., no. 857 (C size)
Annotation: This poster is designed as a game board, with two rainbow-colored, interlocking female symbols representing the playing area of the board. Since the 1970s, interconnected male or female symbols have been used to signify gays and lesbians, and rainbows have become an icon of gay pride. The first rainbow flag, created by Gilbert Baker, waved proudly during the 1978 San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Parade. The colors of the flag represent hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.
Year: 1973
