Media type: poster
Museum Number: POS 6 - U.S., no. 552 (C size) Annotation: This 1970 feminist poster advertises one of many conferences held for women to help them unite, organize and take action against oppression in their lives. During this same period, women authors Toni Morrison and Alice Walker both published their first novels. In an article titled Playing in the Dark, Morrison writes: "My work requires me to think about how free I can be as an African American woman writer in my genderized, sexualized, and wholly radicalized world... For me, imagining is not merely looking or looking at; nor is it taking oneself intact into the other. It is, for the purpose of the work, becoming." Year: 1970
