Annotation: In the Scottsboro Case, nine black youths were accused of gang raping two white women. Despite contradictory testimony, an absence of physical evidence, and the recantation of the accusation by one of the women who claimed to be raped, the Scottsboro defendants spent an average of 10 years in prison.
