The photographer, Danny Lyon, is considered one of the most original documentary photographers of the late 20th century. Lyon grew up in New York City and began to take photographs when he was 17 years old. He studied history at the University of Chicago. Then in the 1960s--during the civil rights movement--he became a staff photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).
