Annotation: Conflicts arose as married women and single women competed for the scarce jobs that were available. Sometimes married women even concealed their marital status to remain employed. The women in this picket line hold signs that read: "Public Works Jobs for Unemployed Single Women"; "We Demand Jobs"; "Association of Unemployed Single Women."
