Annotation: Photographer Ansel Adams compiled photographs and interviews of Japanese American families interned at Manzanar Relocation Center for his book, Born Free and Equal: The Story of Loyal Japanese Americans. Mr. Francis Yonemitsu, seen in this photo, was not a U.S. citizen, while his children are citizens. Of his life before the war, Yonemitsu describes difficulties assimilating into U.S. society because he was banned from entering many public places. He also expressed grave concern over what would happen to him after the war.
