Annotation: The artist, Jerome Myers, was well known for capturing the “life of the city” in his paintings and drawings of New York’s Lower East Side. Myers was also one of the originators of the 1913 Armory Show, a historic event that introduced modern art to America and acted as a catalyst for American artists’ independence, inspiring them to develop their own “artistic language.”
