Annotation: Under the Works Progress Administration program (WPA), Aaron Douglas painted a series of four murals depicting the history, heritage, and culture of African Americans. Douglas was a prominent artist in New York City during the height of the Harlem Renaissance. The WPA, part of the New Deal, provided jobs and income to millions of Americans during the Great Depression.
