Annotation: This is the cover of the book, Uncle Remus, by Joel Chandler Harris. When the Altlanta Constitution first published Joe Harris' "Story of Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Fox as told by Uncle Remus" in 1879 neither the author or the publisher could dream of the enormous fame the characheter of Uncle Remus would achieve across the United States. Harris had only intended to document the stories and speech patterns of Southern plantation slaves, yet the popularity of stories like "Brer rabbit and Tar Baby" would grow to rival Aesop's fables and Grimm's fairy tales as popular children's stories.
