Born
in a Jewish community in Poland, Anzia Yezierska arrived in New
York in 1890 along with her three brothers and three sisters.
She would gain fame as the author of "Bread Givers,"
which describes an immigrant daughter’s effort to break
free from her tyrannical father.
I’m
one of the million of immigrant children., children of loneliness
wandering between worlds that are at once too old and too new
to live in….. I can’t live with the old world and
I’m yet to green for the new. I don’t belong to those
who gave me birth or to those with whom I was educated.
